Import emissions data from inventory items
- 4 min.
You can also handle emission calculation by importing data into environmental journals from ledger entries. For example, you can set up inventory items as data sources in the relevant environmental account, and the import function brings the emissions data into the environmental journal.
Set up an inventory item as a data source
From the relevant environmental account card, open the list at Data Source Table field.
In the Source Table column, choose Item Ledger Entry.
In the Table Filters column, you can set up a range of filters, for example:
- an Item No Filter for one or more inventory items
- an Entry Type Filter, such as Purchase
Note
The unit specified for the emission factor in the environmental account card , for example weight/mass, must match the unit specified in the item card so that the calculation can work.
The Number of Database Records column will show the current count of records that are available for import.
Lastly, set up the Unit Type and Unit Code.
Note
You can set up and overview data sources for multiple environmental accounts from the Environmental Data Sources page.
Import an inventory item into an environmental journal
Once you have set up an environmental account with various data sources, you can import the related ledger entries into the related environmental journal.
Open the relevant environmental journal, and from the Home menu, choose Import Data.
You can check the quantity of materials, and adjust other details in the imported lines before posting.
Note
If emissions are not calculating at this stage, there are two possible problems to fix. Firstly, you might not have an appropriate emission factor specified in the environmental account. Secondly, you might need to check that a weight or value is specified in the environmental account card, depending if you want to calculate based on activity- or spend-based data.
You can also import data into multiple environmental journals in one action from the main list of environmental journals.
- Select the relevant environmental journals
- From the Home menu, choose Import Data
- Choose whether to import data to all environmental journals, or only the selected journals
Scenario
Ester needs to set up some of the inventory items so that emissions data can be imported from item ledger entries. She needs to do these tasks:
- Add inventory items as data sources in the wood and plastics environmental accounts
- Use the import data function to bring emissions data into the purchased goods and services environmental journal
